Taking Things Apart

So, what do we have? The three Fields have been strung together with the CONCATENATE function. The Fields are separated by a comma.

This is what the data may look like when it is exported out of an enterprise database: it is a STRING. It is not very useful as a STRING, so let's use the TEXT functions to take it apart.

 

1. Try it: Modify Text with Functions

The sample spreadsheet is still open.
Select Cell L1.
Type the label: MID.


Select Cell L2. 

Go to Formulas ->Function Library->Text.

Click on MID.
